World Mental Health Day
10 Oct 2020

World Mental Health Day (WMHD) raises public awareness about mental health issues. The day promotes open discussion of mental disorders, and investments in prevention, promotion and treatment services. The treatment gap for mental, neurological and substance use disorders is formidable especially in poor resource countries.

The Mental Health Council of Australia is contracted by the Commonwealth Minister for Health and Ageing to undertake national coordination of WMHD activities throughout Australia.

WMHD is an annual event auspiced by the World Health Organisation, and occurs on 10 October each year. WMHD falls within Mental Health Week but can be moved within the week to enhance exposure and ensure maximum participation.
