Accessible travel

Find information to help you plan an accessible trip on public transport in NSW whether you have an assistance animal, use a mobility aid or want to find out which concessions are available to you.

Community Transport

Community transport is a service for eligible seniors, pensioners, those with accessibility needs or those who have limited access to public transport.

If you need transport to medical appointments or someone to help you with errands, you may be eligible for community transport services.

The service is especially designed to help you get to medical appointments, participate in social activities, do your shopping and maintain independent living at home.

Disability parking permits in NSW

If you have a temporary or permanent condition that affects your mobility, you may be eligible for the NSW Mobility Parking Scheme.

NSW Health: Transport for Health

Transport for health provides a range of transport and travel assistance to people who cannot use or have difficulty using public and or private transport or who are disadvantaged by distance.  Transport for health includes the Isolated Patients Travel and Accommodation Assistance Scheme (IPTAAS).

On Demand public transport

On Demand is a flexible public transport service designed to improve connections to transport hubs and popular destinations like shopping centres or hospitals.

There are On Demand services operating around NSW.

On Demand services can pick you up from home or an easy to access location, and take you where you need to go. Whether it’s a bus, ferry or a bike, you can book an On Demand service for your next trip.

Taxi Subsidy Scheme

If you are a resident of NSW and are unable to use public transport because of a severe and permanent disability, you may be eligible for a subsidy of 50% of a taxi fare, up to a maximum subsidy of $60, and only pay the remaining fare. This includes travel in wheelchair-accessible taxis.

The Aboriginal Funeral Transport Program

The Aboriginal Funeral Transport “Sorry Business” initiative provides assistance with transport for isolated and disadvantaged Aboriginal communities throughout New South Wales, including metropolitan Sydney, to attend funerals within NSW.
